An orphan page is a page that has no links that go to or from it. If there are no links going to the page there is really no reason for it to be there since nobody is ever going to find it. The reason that this is a problem should be pretty obvious. Some people will also call a page that has no links on it an orphan page as well. Specifically there are no links that take people back to where they came from. This is a problem since it will make navigation more difficult and irritate your visitors.
An under construction page is one that you have added to your site even though you have not yet added any content to it. This is a problem for a couple of reasons, first of all it will irritate your visitors since they will not find what they were looking for. The second problem is that it will make you look very unprofessional. Since you are probably using your site to help you increase sales this is something that you have to avoid, nobody is going to buy from you if you look unprofessional.
It should be obvious that you don't want any under construction pages on your site but preventing it can be a challenge. Most of the time they won't be the result of adding pages to your site that have no content but rather not removing pages after you have taken down the content. Since information change all the time it is necessary to add and remove content from your site all the time. You have to make sure that you remove that page from the directory and that you also remove any links that you have going to that page when you take down content.
